What is UCU?

The University and College Union (UCU) is a trade union representing a diverse range of professionals across the UK, academics, lecturers, researchers, managers, administrators, ITS staff, librarians, technicians, professional staff and postgraduates. With over 120,000 members nationwide, we are democratically led and committed to advancing the rights and interests of our members.

What does the Sussex UCU branch do?

Our local branch plays a vital role in advocating for the rights of staff members at the University of Sussex. Led by a dedicated committee, including key positions such as president, honorary secretaries, treasurer, and communications officer, we address both national and institutional issues affecting our members. From negotiating with university management on issues like institutional racism and precarious contracts to pension restoration, we work tirelessly to improve working conditions and protect the rights of our members.

Membership is open to all individuals working in higher education, including academics, lecturers, researchers, managers, administrators, ITS staff, librarians, technicians, professional staff and postgraduates.
