UCU has always stood in solidarity with those fighting for justice and human rights, and has long standing national policy on Palestinian Solidarity. As per our branch’s Palestinian solidarity motion we have co-written a letter with Sussex Students’ Union calling on the University to divest from companies complicit in genocide. Today, we are reaching out to you with an urgent call to action.
We are asking for your support in signing this open letter to our Vice Chancellor, Professor Sasha Roseneil, urging the University to take immediate and decisive action to divest from companies complicit in Israel’s colonial genocide in Gaza, as well as in Israeli settler colonialism, apartheid, and military occupation more broadly.
The letter outlines six key demands, including full divestment, financial transparency, commitment to ethical investment policies, and termination of partnerships with Israeli academic institutions until compliance with international law is achieved.
Our motion on Palestinian solidarity affirms our moral responsibility to speak out against injustice and advocate for meaningful change. By signing this letter, you will be adding your voice to the call for justice and standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people who are enduring unimaginable suffering.
Your support is crucial in amplifying our collective voice and pushing for tangible action from our University leadership. Together, we can make a difference and contribute to the fight for justice.
Thank you for your solidarity and commitment.
